Vintage Tablescape Thursday

Today’s vintage tablescape comes from Sunset Magazine‘s article on throwing a “Nothing-to-it Big Party” from April 1969.  Guests hover around food stations, with each station providing a different course.

The article suggests either renting wine-glasses or using plastic ‘nested’ glasses for easy cleanup.   Soup is served in paper cups without spoons.

Instead of a traditional salad, guests dip vegetables in ranch dip

Sandwich-makings serve as the main course and apple-slices with cheese for dessert.  I’m sad there’s no fondue for dessert, quite honestly.  I definitely think this party needs fondue!

    Too funny!! Looks like a lot of the pictures my parents have of their parties! And, yes, it needs fondue!

    I have been to that party! Just too much fun. My mother must have read that article. Her dessert would be brownie bites and lemon squares.

      @Carol: Oh lemon squares! I should totally write up a post on those, shouldn’t I?

      @Lana: Thanks for stopping by — I love the old photos as well!

      @Ungourmet: Thanks — and yes, fondue is a must!

    That would be me with the barrette in the long hair and the mini-jumper… Silent Bob is at the other food station with the ‘cord’ blazer and moustache… we were so cool! But… where are the skewers and fondue and oh… the cheese sculpture with toothpicks for skewering pieces… ? Ha! What a blast from the past!

    I love vintage cookbooks and often imagine myself in these settings. Too cute! Although I dream of having formal dinner parties, I think I would rather be a guest!

    @Beth: Thanks!

    @Susan: I agree! We must have fondue!

    @Merry: I would much rather be a guest so I don’t have to wash all the cloth napkins afterward.

    @Pearl: Thanks for stopping by!
