When I worked in London, there was nothing I loved more than afternoon tea.  At 4pm, my colleagues’ eyes would light up and everyone would head over to the canteen for a cup of tea and a biscuit.  Tea always came at a perfect time of day for me, when my eyes were fogging up from too much squinting and my brain was slowing down.  Now that I’m back in Seattle, I miss my afternoon cuppa, so when I paged through one of my vintage Betty Crocker cookbooks and found a recipe for Russian Tea Cakes, I just knew I had to make them!
This recipe comes from the Betty Crocker Hostess Cookbook that I posted about earlier in the week.  The recipe was easy to follow, although I had to add a few tablespoons of milk so that I could shape the dough into balls.  That said, the tea cakes turned out perfectly: not too sweet, nutty, and very tasty with a cup of tea!
Yum!! Can you bring some tomorrow? 😉
@Tricia: Certainly! They are super nummy!
These are so charming! 🙂
My coworkers and I recently just bought a hot water heater for our office so that we could have our own tea time at work. I heart!
@ali: oooh, you should make these for work!
It is 4:30 here and I am just about to have a cuppa myself. I wish had some of these yummy goodies to have with it!
Best wishes and happy weekend,
Natasha.
Those look like a wonderful afternoon snack! They are one of my favorite cookies.
I love Russian Tea Cakes…so buttery and delicious! I live in the Pacific NW, too (Portland). It’s nice to meet other local bloggers. Have a great weekend!
Yum, those look delicious!
These looks fabulous. I’d like to use your photo and link back to you for a post I’m writing called “things I can’t wait to try”.
@Natasha: Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend as well.
@Kristen: They’re my favorite as well. This is my first time making them though, which was fun!
@Inspired: Thanks for the Pacific NW welcome! I hope Portland gets lots of sun this weekend.
@Maggi: Thanks for stopping by!
@Kathleen: Yes, link away! And do try them–they were great!
We used to make something like this when I was young–made with pecans and rolled in powdered sugar. They were perfect. I may have to try to make them again…
I love your blog. I was thinking about it yesterday as I was sorting through some old recipes.
my beloved Mother made these every year for Christmas. They will always be my favorite. Mom is no longer with us but we honor her by making these wonderful cookies.
Yummmm! I make these every year at Christmas! It’s a family favorite and yes it came from an old Betty Crocker Cookbook! Really enjoy your site! Thanks for visiting mine!
